Class Recently
I think right now it is more important to talk about the dynamic of our class. There are clearly three distinct groups of people with differing thoughts. Two groups with conflicting ideas and one with more neutral thoughts. I would say that the last three consecutive classes that I have come to, I have left in a furious frenzy because of conflicting ideas. I take responsibility for being a part of the conflicts and I think others should take responsibility as well. If this continues I think everyone will dread coming to Human Rights, and I personally don't want to dread going to a class for the rest of the year. Furthermore, we've been talking about the same idea from different angles which I think only perpetuates the conflict. Our efficiency in reaching some sort of resolution on the topics we talk about has dropped dramatically and now all we do is take shots at each other. I think we should stop having debates because we never reach any kind of practical solution. I'd like to hear what other people think we should do because I don't have a solution to this... I just know there's a problem. Cheers.

coming from the other side of the room, i definetly see what will is talking about. sometimes i get nervous to leave the classroom because i can feel the blood boiling after certain discussions. i do like hearing what people have to say, and i do like debating, but sometimes there is a level of intensity that is a little frightening. this is most likely an unproductive comment but i think we need to just keep in mind that these are options and you can shut people down and argue about issues but it shouldnt get personal...dont really have a solution idea though...
i think we have to try and leave the argument in the classroom, and agree that we disagree. we need to find some sort of common ground where no one gets too heated and the discussion is still productive. Though it can be hard, we have to leave the tension in the classroom
i think that the problem stems from our foundations. some of us come from an extremely right and or left, but that is good. just debating and not coming to a resolution is better than not having a heated debate at all. I love being made at the person across from me because it causes me to think about why i believe certain things. so, we should continue to argue and disagree, and keep it coming, because if we don't, then we will dread going to class because we will do nothing.
if we were to stop debating I really don't know what else there would be to do. Chris makes a point that a lot of people's opinions stem from different foundations. However not all people have been are as educated as others on certain issues and it becomes really hard to participate without getting shut down. sometimes i'm unsure about how someone has reached a certain opinion and maybe it would help if we were to explain our individual understandings on an issue before we decide whose got the right and wrong opinion.
